California Tribal Domestic Violence Services Program
Inter Tribal Council of California

The California Tribal Domestic Violence Services Program has been established to enhance existing and develop new methods for providing Tribal women and families the protection and services they need to pursue safe and healthy lives and enable communities to hold their offenders accountable for the crimes they have committed.
Strategies will involve partnering with the Attorney General's Office of Indian Affairs, the California Consortium of Urban Indian Health Clinics, and local law enforcement agencies to provide resources to all California Indians in the area of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking. Our staff of culturally competent trained Domestic Violence Advocates and our collaborative efforts with local community, County, and State partners will work statewide with California Indians to address domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
In addition we will also work to establish education and training services to decrease the number of violent crimes committed against Indian women.
ITCC works with Indian tribes to establish tribal authorities within their local communities to more effectively respond to violent crimes against Indian women; and assure that violators are held accountable for their actions.
Historically, tribal people have, through cultural beliefs and practice work to ensure that people within the Tribal community will be served with compassion, understanding and respect.
Trainings on cultural competency, the impact of domestic violence on children and domestic violence in Tribal communities
will be available to Tribal governments, community organizations,
and law enforcement agencies.
